Sean McGee is Associate Professor of Medical Biology at the Metabolic Research Unit, School of Medicine, at Deakin University. After completing a PhD in 2005, he undertook post-doctoral studies in the Department of Physiology at The University of Melbourne and The University of Dundee in Scotland, supported by an NHMRC Doherty Fellowship. In 2009, Dr McGee accepted an independent position in the newly established School of Medicine at Deakin University and has been supported by the Diabetes Australia Research Trust Viertel Fellowship and a NHMRC Career Development Fellowship. He is currently Deputy Director of the Metabolic Research Unit and co-leader of the Metabolic and Musculoskeletal Medicine Theme in the Centre for Molecular and Medical Research at Deakin University. His research focusses metabolic reprogramming in diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease and discovering therapies to combat these diseases. In 2017, he co-founded a drug development company Imitex Pty Ltd to commercialise and translate this research.
