Dr. Katherine T. Tonks is a Staff Specialist of the Department of Endocrinology, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Clinical Research Officer of the Diabetes and Obesity Research Program, Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
She completed her PhD in 2015 segregating the molecular defects of insulin resistance in obesity, compared to insulin-sensitive obesity, and was granted a NHMRC Postgraduate Research Scholarship in recognition. In 2015 she won the ADS President’s Prize - Clinical Young Investigators Award for her talk entitled “Bone is another casualty in the war against insulin resistance, as it remains insulin-sensitive.”
Dr. Tonks helped form, and currently heads, the Multidisciplinary Diabetes Foot Clinic at St. Vincent’s Hospital in 2008. She has been an invited speaker the Endocrine Society of Australia and Australia New Zealand Obesity Society Annual Scientific Meeting.
