Professor of Cell Transplantation, Uppsala University, Sweden
After completing his thesis in 1991, Dr. Korsgren became a Specialist in Clinical Immunology and Senior staff member at the Department of Clinical Immunology, University Hospital, Uppsala in 2001. In 2002 he was appointed Professor of Transplantation Immunology at Uppsala University and since 2006 he holds the position as Professor of Cell Transplantation at the same University.
Dr. Korsgren's research activity has been focused on elucidating the etiology of type 1 diabetes and to make islet transplantation a possible treatment for patients with type I diabetes. He is the Principal Investigator of the Nordic Network for clinical islet transplantation.
Dr. Korsgren has received several honors and awards, and he is frequently invited to give seminars and lectures at international meetings and workshops. Dr. Korsgren has authored more than 250 scientific publications.
