Peta commenced her career in Diabetes Education in 1998 and quickly developed a love for teaching people about diabetes and self-management. Since this time she has successfully completed post-graduate study in diabetes and nursing. In 2003 she established a Diabetes Educator Private Practice in Brisbane working with general practitioners, practice nurses, and those with diabetes and the people who care for them.
Professionally Peta has contributed to local and national projects designed to improve the care of people with diabetes. She has been involved in the development of accredited training programmes for pharmacists, nurses and GP’s in cooperation with diabetes advocacy groups, universities, and health professional organisations. She has also participated in research projects and advisory boards for leading diabetes pharmaceutical and device manufacturers, and is an accomplished public speaker.
Recently she has achieved AHPRA endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner. This will enable her to work collaboratively between all sectors of the health community as a senior nursing clinician while maintaining her focus on the care of people with diabetes in the primary care sector.
